May 24th 2006 -  State Secretary for Environmental Affairs, Mr. Pieter van Geel, unveiled 25 trucks and delivery vans equipped with a broad selection of retrofit air-pollution control devices. One TNT truck includes the e-Mission™ Particle Eliminator, which was designed and constructed specifically for this diesel combustion engine and installed within four weeks after an eleventh hour invitation to partake in this SenterNovem "retrofit practice test". Early results are due in the Fall of 2006.

In July 2005, the patent pending e-Mission® Particle Eliminator was installed on the Whisper™. Remaining just as quiet as before, particle emissions are now further reduced by an estimated additional 80% without the use of maintenance intensive and costly filters. Early test indicate that 90% of the largest particles and more than 50% of the finest particles are trapped by the system. Further improvements are deemed likely over time.

Our specially designed auxiliary power supply (APU) is much more fuel efficient than the conventional diesel traction system it replaces. This is in large part due to the fact that the e-Traction® System uses the electric energy much more efficiently and therefore requires only a fairly small generator to keep the traction motors and/or batteries supplied with the electric power needed.

Unlike conventional generators, the diesel powered APU of both the e-Traction® Bus and the Whisper™ operate at a variable speed and produce DC (direct current) instead of AC (alternating current) power. The APU of the Whisper™ is powered by a commonly used 3.3 liter Mitsubishi diesel motor and is substantially smaller than the 6.0 liter conventional diesel traction of the Ambassador 200 bus, on which the Whisper™ has been based. The vastly lower fuel consumption of the e-Traction® System automatically reduces air-polluting emissions by minimally that same ratio. Still not satisfied with the reduced emissions these much smaller motors produce we have developed a (patent pending) e-Mission® Particle Eliminator system that reduces the harmful particles on average by an additional 80%.

The Whisper™'s APU (when in operation**) and the e-Mission® Particle Eliminator jointly will produce:

just one third of the CO2  emissions and only 6.7% of the harmful particles

of the conventional VDL Berkhof Ambassador 200 diesel bus, on which the Whisper™ is based.

** The Whisper™ can operate more than one hour purely on its batteries, without the need for energy from the APU.

Before inclusion of the e-Mission® Particle Eliminator, the Whisper™ (images below) already had a very quiet exhaust system that was placed in the roof instead of, as is the case with the original Ambassador 200 under the right rear of the bus. It is most peculiar that the emissions are allowed to be spewed so near pedestrians and cyclists. The very same noise suppressing exhaust system has now been incorporated in the e-Mission® Particle Eliminator system.

The production version of this system will be available for fossil fuel installation of any size any application. Obviously the choice of installing it first on the Whisper™ seemed logical to demonstrate the maximum possible reduction in environmental impact. Conventional buses, garbage trucks, tractors and all sorts of marine applications, however, will be able to benefit from this low cost, easy to apply technology.

The e-Mission® Particle Eliminator does not require a minimum temperature to function nor does it use expensive filters that require periodic replacement or regeneration. Neither does it use electricity to incinerate the particles. It uses principles known for many years that have been ingeniously coupled with a proprietary electronic management system which is tied into the management of the entire vehicle. Early experiments on our G-class jeep have confirmed the expectations and a expanded version is now being completed for the Whisper™. The soot particles are collected in storage tray which should periodically be emptied depending on the amount of vehicle use on the Whisper™.

The e-Mission product line currently consists of just one product: the patent pending e-Mission® Particle Eliminator. It is expected, however, that this invention will be produced in many configurations to be perfectly matched for individual applications. Long range, it is intended that other environmentally sound products will be developed and marketed under this separate, but clearly affiliated, trademark.
